BREE MASTERS
Written by: Locke Fitzpatrick
Bree Masters is one of Australia’s fastest women. Starting her career as a beach sprinter, Bree discovered a newfound passion for running when she transitioned to track at the end of 2019. Since then, she has made Olympic history, becoming Australia’s first female in 24 years to reach the 100m semi-final. Bree is also part of the record-breaking women’s Australian 4x100m team and holds a Commonwealth Games Bronze Medal in the 4x100m from the 2022 Birmingham Games. With a personal best of 11.23 seconds, Bree currently holds the #8 spot on Australia’s all-time list.
Bree’s journey began at age six at Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club. While she loved dancing, gymnastics, soccer, netball, and Little Athletics, it was beach sprinting that captured her heart. By age 13, Bree became the youngest female to win an Australian beach sprint title, and her accolades quickly grew to include Youth Beach Sprint and Flag Champion in 2012, Open Female Beach Sprint World Champion in 2016, and Open Female Australian Beach Sprint Champion in 2019.
At age 17, Bree moved to Queensland to take her training to the next level under the guidance of her current coach, Ryan Hoffman. In December 2019, Bree made the transition back to track, clocking an impressive 11.63 seconds for 100m in her first race after an 8-year hiatus. Since then, Bree has represented Australia at prestigious events, including the 2022 Oregon World Championships, 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, 2023 Budapest World Championships, 2024 Bahamas World Relays, and the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. She is a three-time national 100m silver medallist and currently holds both the 4x100m Oceania and national records.
As fast as Bree’s journey has happened, it hasn’t been without its challenges. But as Bree says…
"Setbacks are just a chapter in a much bigger story. You can either let them affect you and put you down, or you grab hold of it and make something of it. I think that’s where the real magic happens."
Whether she’s training or racing, Bree’s all about leveling up and overcoming any obstacle that stands in her way. She doesn’t settle, always pushes her limits and inspires her community to be 1% better every day.
